Macadamia is a farm and laboratory for ecological research and study In the heart of an open space cell in Yavniel

Our essence lies in being a catalyst for positive change
We go beyond traditional farming by offering a laboratory of possibilities,
It brings together environmental education, academic research
and practical applications.
Our farm, located in the picturesque Galilee region, is a living testimony
for sustainable living and working methods in the face of climate and environmental challenges

Our unique field cell is located in the northern periphery, A beautiful vantage point for the Sea of Galilee.
It offers a home to a variety of species of wildlife and flora, and serves as a diverse and rich ecosystem

Every project on our farm serves as an educational opportunity, which empowers students and researchers to explore the depths of scientific discovery and foster a culture of
environmental awareness
Together, we shape a greener and more sustainable future

In the past, the area was controlled by growing wheat, which includes spraying and pest control.
Since we arrived we have been fostering change
for ecological diversity
and referring to the human context within it,
This is in line with the UN goals
for sustainable development (SDGs)

Macadamia is a non-profit organization,
which develops organically thanks to
the "swarm model"
We understand that achieving our goals is not only a matter of policy and thought, but also a call to action for individuals and communities:
A leading research center in the Galilee
By increasing the number of researchers working in the Galilee, we will cultivate the academic ecosystem that includes research and development of academic content that is mostly done by young researchers and research students

Sustainable
Environmental care transcends political, cultural and social boundaries, thus requiring a broad spectrum of voices and perspectives

interdisciplinary
The multidisciplinary nature of the SDGs invites researchers from different fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, health sciences and humanities, to collaborate and contribute their expertise to achieve the goals

Socio-geographic location
We aim to bridge the traditional gap between the center and the periphery, and create a vibrant ecosystem of research and scientific partnerships

The leader of Macadamia is Dr. Nir Ofek
A researcher in the Biological Networks Laboratory at the Technion, who uses his background in artificial intelligence to contribute to the understanding of networks in nature.
Integrates ecological thinking in the various sciences, develops and teaches new programs on the subject and advises the MLA on the committee that deals with interdisciplinary
